Community Action Plan

The Community Action Plan was developed in partnership with Hasiru Dala as a toolkit to understand shared and distinct community challenges related to adequate housing and​ ​map different pathways towards addressing these challenges.

The Community Action Plan is a capacity-building and decision support toolkit developed with the Housing team of Hasiru Dala. The toolkit consists of The Storytelling Game, an interactive data collection game for gathering community narratives as actionable data; and The Pathways Playbook, a capacity building and decision support resource for Hasiru Dala facilitators to use in their mapping of pathways towards accessible housing.

Data Collection

The Storytelling Game is a physical game that operates through a controlled space that encourages the exchanging of experiences related to accessing housing through the use of thematic prompts and guided movement.

Participants enter the game as their individual selves. During gameplay, players (please describe basic gameplay, player actions, etc.). Sharing personal experiences helps foster a collective understanding of the housing landscape, which contributes to building solidarity and support frameworks.

Post gameplay, Hasiru Dala staff can use this data to identify significant obstacles in the way of adequate community housing, including issues related to hygiene and sanitation, unavailability of pucca housing, and threat of eviction.

Capacity Building & Decision Support

The Pathways Playbook is a two-part interactive tool that maps the different pathways for achieving accessible housing and provides a framework for tracking the implementation progress. The Playbook was developed using existing organisational knowledge.

Part 1 of the Playbook presents a physical information map for the Hasiru Dala staff to showcase the interconnections in achieving housing pathways as well as the role of Haisiru Dala and the community in achieving these pathways. Details of what it takes to achieve these pathways is documented in the handbook and acts as a knowledge resource for the Hasiru Dala staff.

Part 2 of the Playbook is a physical journey book that Haisru Dala staff can use with community members to map out the complex housing process with the community, track progress and plan next steps towards achieving housing pathways. The journey book creates space for participation of community members by providing a shared artefact towards planning.

As part of the Community Action Plan, the Pathways Playbook was customised to reflect community context and adapted for Hasiru Dala community facilitators.
