State of Care
State of Care has been implemented with healthcare professionals and decision makers as customised game modules to improve the understanding of the challenges faced by different communities in accessing healthcare.
State of Care is a capacity-building game for healthcare providers and institutions to understand the systemic challenges faced by marginalised and vulnerable communities while accessing healthcare services, and the support systems that exist to help them overcome these challenges. The game is developed as customised modules to meet specific objectives for different stakeholders.
Module 1: A Hospital Journey - Accessing Mental Healthcare Services
This is a physical game in which healthcare providers play the role of caregivers to different vulnerable personas who are trying to access mental healthcare services in a hospital. Through gameplay, players experience the challenges that different vulnerable groups face when accessing healthcare services, including financial stress from medical bills, inaccessible services, exorbitant wait times, and discrimination by hospital staff. These experiences help the player understand that the compounding effect of these challenges leads to greater distress for the person they are caring for. Finally, the players come together to find solutions to the challenges that they faced.
